2010 Training of World Korean Youths & University Students in the Motherland

Overseas Korean Foundation (OKF) was founded in 1997 as an exclusive organization for overseas Koreans under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea and is supporting 7 million overseas Koreans residing all throughout the world so that they can grow as exemplary members of their residing countries while maintaining the same national solidarity.

 

Each year, the Foundation has held the projects of「Training of Overseas Koreans Youths and University Students in the Motherland」with eligible youths and university students of overseas Koreans who will grow as main players of overseas Korean societies in the future.

 

We look forward to the many participants in the “2010 Training of World Korean Youths and University Students in the Motherland,” where overseas Korean youths and university students of each country across the world gather together in one place and to forms mutual bonds by having opportunities of communication and also have a momentum of in the nurturing of pride and leadership as Koreans by experiencing the society, culture, and history of the motherland in person.

 

 

 

1. Training Overview

 

A. Training Title: 2010 Training of Overseas Korean Youths and University Students in Motherland

 

B. Training Objective

Korean youths in each country of the world increase pride for the motherland and family bonds by having direct experience of the society, culture, and history of motherland.

Korean youths all throughout the world form mutual networks through opportunities for communication by gathering in one place and are encouraged to grow as future leaders of the next generation through the nurturing of the consciousness and leadership of global citizens'.

 

C. Training Period (Official Schedule): August 3, 2010 (Tue) ~ August 9, 2010 (Mon) <6 nights, 7 days>

◦ Check in: August 3, 2010 (Tue); Check out: August 9, 2010 (Mon)

 

D. Place: Seoul, and Countryside

 

E. Training Participants: 250 overseas Korean youths between the ages of 15-22

 

F. Main Training Contents and Schedule

 

1) Arrival in Korea and Registration: August 3, 2010 (Tue)

 

2) Opening Ceremony: 18:00PM - 21:00PM, August 3, 2010 (Tue), Seoul

◦ Opening ceremony, main lecture (G-20 Proud Global Koreans), cultural performance

 

3) Experiencing theme having main topic: August 4, 2010 (Wed) - August 6, 2010 (Fri), Countryside

◦ Group selection type programs, produce and present UCC after experiencing the traditions and living cultures of Korea

◦ Common programs per region (Plan)

- To learn traditional and living cultures: Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet), mask dance, Pansori ( traditional Korean narrative song), traditional crafts, Korean food cooking (making rice cakes and preparing kimchi), etc.

- Experience Activities in Farm Villages: Farm stays and helping in farms, etc.

◦ Places of experiencing theme (Examples)

- Sokcho Ssamchae Village, Hwacheon Togomi Village, Asan Cultural Village, Nonsan Old House Village, Gyeongju Yangdong Folklore Village, Gochang mud field, etc.

 

4) City Tour: August 7, 2010 (Sat), Seoul

◦ City Tour

- Deoksu Palace Jeongdong course, Unhyeon Palace Insa-Dong course, Dokribmun (Independence Gate) Seodaemun course, Yongsan Itaewon course, Bukchon Samcheong-Dong course, etc.

 

5) Green Korea, Green Peace: 11:00AM - 17:00PM, August 8, 2010 (Sun), Imjingak

◦ Bicycle parade from Gwanghwamun Plaza, up to Imjingak Peace Park.

◦ Green Transport Campaign by riding bicycles as a symbol of low carbon green transport.

 

6) Closing Ceremony: August 8, 2010 (Sun), 19:00 - 21:00, Seoul

◦ Present excellent UCC of training experiences

◦ Present cultural performances presented by each of the participant groups

◦ Adopt 'Seoul Declaration of World Korean Youth Global Network' (Tentative title)

 

7) Departure: August 9, 2010 (Mon)

2. Application and Submission

 

A. Application Period: April 7, 2010 ~ May 6, 2010 (No application will be accepted after submission period)

 

B. Submission Data (~⑤ Compulsory Submission, ⑥~⑦ Selective Submission)

① 1 copy of participation application (Required form, download application from public notice of this training within public notices of www.korean.net )

② Self-introduction (Either in Korean or English)

③ 2 photographs (3×4㎝)

④ 1 copy of passport

⑤ Certificate of school enrollment or certificate of admission

⑥ Evidence documents of specialists in various fields or awards received

⑦ Recommendation letter (Principal, Counselor)

※ Submission documents shall be prepared in Korean or English. Please state contacts information correctly, such as e-mail, telephone number, etc. (Please write your main e-mail address since the majority of notifications will be carried out in e-mails.)

Make sure to include an emergency contact information and contact information within Korea

 

C. Submission place: Submit to overseas diplomatic offices in your residing country.

 

 

3. Selection and Support

 

A. Selection procedure

◦ Submit application documents to diplomatic offices in residing countries (Deadline May 6, 2010)

◦ Selection examination of the Foundation (May 30, 2010)

◦ Notification to selected participants (June 4, 2010)

:E-mail notifications to residing diplomatic offices and applicants, postings on the Foundation web site - (www.korean.net)

◦ Arrival of trainees in Korea (August 3, 2010)

 

B. Advantageous applicants in deciding selection

◦ Those who are excellent in the Korean language (Only to those who submit copies of certificates of qualification)

◦ Specialists in various fields, awards recipients, and those with plenty of social service experiences

◦ Those who have received recommendation from chiefs of diplomatic offices in residing countries or principles of their registered schools.

◦ Those who understand well the purpose of the training and who are recognized to be appropriate for participation by President of the Foundation.

※ These allocation numbers were decided in consideration of the number of Koreans residing in each region but it can be changed according to application situation per region.

 

C. Contents of the support

Flight Support by Region

- Russia, CIS regions: 100% of round-trips flight ticket price (Economy class)

- China regions (Joseon tribe): 50% of round-trips flight ticket price (Economy class)

Participation expenses during training in Korea: Paid by the Foundation
