Conduct `simulation election of overseas Koreans' in the middle of November

National Election Commission, ‘prior practice’ in anticipation of exercise of the first suffrage in 2012

National Election Commission has announced on May 24 that they conduct simulation election at 26 Korean diplomatic offices in foreign countries during the middle of November as a prior practice in anticipation of exercise of suffrage of overseas Korean which will be introduced from general election of 2012.

National Election Commission said that over 2.3 million qualified overseas Koreans for suffrage will participate in this simulation election in anticipation of election of proportional representation members of the National Assembly in which they will participate for the first time in 2012" and " that the simulation election will be carried out for two days of November 14~15 at overseas voting places of 26 Korean diplomatic offices in 21 foreign countries."

Korean diplomatic offices where the simulation election takes place are 26 locations including Korean Embassy in Japan, Consulate General in Osaka, Korean Embassy in China, Consulate General in Shanghai, Consulates of Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco of the USA, Consulate General in Vancouver in Canada, Korean Embassy in Lebanon, Korean Embassy in Angola and others.

Besides, the simulation election will be carried out concurrently at total 16 voting places in cities and provinces of the entire nation including Songpa District in Seoul, Haeundae District in Busan, Dalseo District in Daegu and others for overseas Koreans who have reported residence within Korea.

The simulation election will be conducted in the sequential procedure of preparation of list of qualified persons of overseas election, preparation of list of report of overseas absentees, reading and application of objection of the list of qualified persons of overseas election, mailing of the simulation voting papers, returning envelops and information of overseas election, provision of information data of the simulation political parties and candidates and the simulation election.

National Election Commission plans to receive application for participation of the simulation election until September 30, 2010.

Those who want to vote may submit application furnished at public service desks of Korean diplomatic offices or posted at the homepage of overseas election (ok.nec.go.kr) as well as the homepage of National Election Commission (
www.nce.go.kr) through mails, e-mails or fax.
