A simulation election in November.  Lots of attentions looking forward to suffrage in 2012

(Seoul=Yon Hap News Agency) Reporter Jin-Wook Kang= The World Convention of chairmen of Overseas Koreans Associations, which is a venue of festival for all chairmen of Overseas Korean Associations who work in each place of the world, was held in Seoul in the afternoon of June 15, 2010 in the largest scale in the history of the convention.

The 11th Convention held in this year was a great success with participation of a total of 500 people of 380 people related to overseas Koreans Associations from 76 countries of the world   including not only the USA, China, Japan, CIS (Former Soviet Union) where many overseas Koreans reside but also the Republic of South Africa, which is now hosting 2010 World Cup, Azerbaijan, which is one of three richest countries of natural resources, Madagascar, which is the fourth largest island of the world and etc as well as 120 relevant domestic people.

This convention of chairmen of oversea Koreans associations which is held for four days until June 18, 2010 under the slogan of `Bigger Republic of Korea, Bigger Overseas Koreans,' attracts attentions of various sectors including political arena especially as it is opened before the event of suffrage of overseas Koreans in 2012 and simulation election of overseas Koreans vote to be held in November this year.

 

At the opening ceremony held at 4:00 PM at Vista Hall of Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel, President Young-Kon Kwon of Overseas Koreans Foundation," which hosted this convention said that the facts of opening the event of this year which is held in the largest scale since its first convention in 2000 is the evidence that the status of overseas Koreans has been firmly established during the history of 140 years of overseas Koreans immigration" and "influence of 7 million overseas Korean in 116 countries are expanding day by day."

He also said that "it was possible for Korea to host G20 summit conference in November and the status of motherland was increased all because of sacrificing supports of overseas Koreans" and emphasized by requesting that "all overseas Koreans shall put together wisdom to discuss so that overseas Koreans society can develop in the growing relationship.

Successively, congratulatory speeches of representative Se Gyun Chung of the Democratic Party and Hee Ryong Won chairman of the committee of foreign affairs, trade and unification of the National Assembly and Jung Gil Chung the Chief Presidential Secretary were continued.

Representative Chung mentioned about the victory of the game with Greece of the World Cup and said that "status of Korean people is demonstrated in every place of the global village," "I thank to the sacrifice of overseas Koreans for the development of the motherland" and "it is time to put together our wisdom for consolidating our strength through the global network while consolidating will with one heart and one intention of all Korean people."

The Chief Presidential Secretary Chung asked "to support and understand the government
s policy toward North Korea" while mentioning about the accident of PCC (Patrol Combat Corvette)-722 Cheonan after emphasizing that "the Republic of Korea will develop while maintaining close partnership with overseas Korean societies in the future."

The Overseas Koreans Foundation held press interview at 10:00AM before opening ceremony with participations of President Kwon of the Foundation, chairman Hae Myung Chung of Federation of Oceania Koreans Associations, who is joint chairman of this convention, chairman Jung Gil Park of Asia & Middle East Koreans Associations and chairman Hae Kwon Chung of Durban Koreans Association of the Republic of South Africa.

In here, President Kwon said that "vote method or plans for increasing voting rate were not yet decided and there is no alternative yet" toward the pointing out that voting rate may be low because there are lots of restrictions such as remote voting and etc during suffrage event of overseas Koreans and revealed that "he will recommend to the Central Election Management Committee by collecting and converging points overseas Koreans feel inconvenient and opinions of election  system and methods overseas Koreans want."

This convention is held at both of Sheraton Walkerhill Grande Hotel in Seoul (June 15
17) and Seongwoo Resort in Hoingseong of Gangwon-Do. (June 17
18)

The number of participants of the convention of chairmen of overseas Koreans Associations, which was begun in 2000, is increasing every year from only around 200 people in early stage, 337 people in 2007, 383 people in 2008, and 450 people from 66countries in last year.
