Selection of 30 prize-winning works of “the 13th Literature Awards of Overseas Koreans”prize-winning works

- Judging panel members said that works as excellent as domestic Korean writers’ works were found out as Literature Awards of Overseas Koreans is continued over 10 years

 

- Poet Shin Gyeong-Rim, a judging panel member commented that my heartstrings were pulled all the times throughout reading the works because there were many works which anyone can be sympathized and impressed.

 

- Collection of prize-winning works, <the Window of Literature of Overseas Koreans> will be published in December 2011

 

□ The Overseas Koreans Foundation (OKF) has selected total 30 prize-winning works of the 13th Literature Awards of Overseas Koreans.Among total 1,246 works submitted for the contest of poem, short novel and essay in the area of adults and the area of the youth, total 30 works of grand prix, top first prize, excellence prize, runner-up and participation prize per area were selected.

 

□ The winner of grand prix in the area of poem is <Reading my autobiography> written by Im Eui-Suk (USA), grand prix winner in the area of short novel is <White world> of Kim Yeon-Ah (USA) and grand prix winner in the area of essay is <Mother’s happiness> of Oh Su-Hwa. (USA)

<Memory> of Kim Hyun-Ji (China) and <A country where I live in and a country where I will live in> of Suh Gi-Yoon (Japan) won top first prizes respectively in the area of the youth representing middle/high schools and elementary schools and in Korean language schools special prize,’’Sydney Catholic Korean language schoolof Australia and’Frankfurt Korean language schoolof Germany were selected respectively.

 

□ A judging panel of literature award consisted of total 12 members including poets Shin Gyeong-Rim and Shin Dal-Ja and novelists Oh Jeong-Hee and Eun Hee-Gyung commented that level of contesting works has been increased significantly compared to the level of last year and the number of works reflecting and expressing their own lives disinterestedly were increasedand also said thatworks as excellent as domestic writers’ works were found out as the contest of Literature Awards of Overseas Koreans is continued more than 10 years.

 

In particular, poet Shin Gyeong-Rim who became a member of judging panel said that my heartstrings were pulled all the times throughout reading the works because there were many works which anyone can be sympathized and impressedand also revealed her judging opinion thatit is desirable that Korean literature becomes more affluent through continuous writing practices and participation in the contests of Literature Award of overseas Koreans.Novelist Oh Jung-Hee commented thatquality level of works has improved significantly during the recent three years. She said that it is because perspective reflecting on tracks of life felt in foreign lands has become more profound.

 

□ In addition, Planning Director Kim Kyung-Geun of the Overseas Koreans Foundation (OKF) said that it is our task in the future to prepare environment for prize winners to be able to publish their works and carry out their literary activities within Korea through literature awards of overseas Koreansand has asked a favor that many more overseas Korean writers with competence will participate in the competition.

 

□ Prize-winning works will be published under the title of <Overseas Koreans –the Window of Literature> at the end of this year and distributed to each national and public library as well as diplomatic missions abroad free of charge.

 

□ Each year, poem, short novel, essay and works in the area of the youth are solicited in competition for literature awards of overseas Koreans from May to August through Korean net. (www.korean.net)
