Overseas Koreans Foundation, which is an exclusive organization dealing with overseas Koreans under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, was established in 1997 and has helped 7.2 million overseas Koreans grow into the exemplary people in their living countries keeping ethnic bonds among them.
We have held 「Global Korean Youth Network 」targeting overseas Korean youths and University students who will become the leader of the overseas Korean society.
Through「2013 Global Korean Youth Network 」, overseas Korean youths and University students from all over the world will gather together and have the opportunity to communicate with one another to form bonds among them. Also experiencing motherland’s society, culture and history will promote their sense of pride as a Korean and leadership. We hope that many of overseas Korean youths will participate.
1. Outline
A. Title:「2013 Global Korean Youth Network 」
B. Purpose
◦ To provide overseas Korean youths and university students with an opportunity to experience motherland’s society, culture and history so as to have an identity as the Korean people and to form the human relation network among them.
◦ To promote a sense of fellowship among youths and university students both inside and outside the country so as to cooperate with one another to grow into the global leaders.
C. When
◦ 1st Team (Middle and high school students) : July 16(Tue)~July 23(Tue) <7 nights and 8 days>
◦ 2nd Team(Prep university students•university students) : July 30(Tue)~Aug.6(Tue) <7 nights and 8 days>
D. Where: Seoul, local places
E. Who
◦ Object people: Overseas Korean youths and university students around the world
- Age: 13~23(as of July 1, 2013)
․ Those in the 15~23 age are acceptable only from Russia and CIS region.
- Middle and high school students, university students (including prep students)
◦ The number: 1,000 students
- 1st Team (Middle and high school students) 600 people / 2nd Team (Prep university students, university students) 400 people
◦ Requirements for application
- Overseas Koreans who have been living in abroad more than 5 years legally in a capacity of a citizenship, a permanent residents, an overseas adoptee or a child of marriage immigrants.
․Including Korean-Vietnam children, Korean-Philippines children, etc.
- Descendants of the people of national merits and the Koryo people and KoreanChinese who have not yet visited their motherland.
- People who have not had any experience of participating in the training course held by Overseas Koreans Foundation or any other organization
- People who have good records of contribution or service for the overseas Korean community.
- People who are sound in mind and body without any difficulties in staying in a camp for training (such as attending a lecture, traveling, etc)
- People who are not against the foreign travel-related law in the country of sojourn and received their principal’s recommendation and their parent’s consent (Include a letter of recommendation and a written consent when submitting to the application.)

3) Traditional culture experience and theme travel
◦ Group-selective program, Korean traditional living culture experience, Presentation
◦ Regional common programs(Plans)
- To learn about traditional culture and living culture
- Farm experience: Homestay, To provide a helping hand
4) City Tour, Korean wave experience
5) Proud Korean, Korean language camp
6) Leadership forum
7) Observing Korean industries
8) Closing ceremony

2. Application & Receipt
A. Period for application: Feb.25~Apr.5 / confirming the regional last date for application should be recommended.
B. Documents for submission (①~④ Compulsory, ⑤,⑥ Selective)
① A copy of the sign-up sheet (A prescribed form, Fill in an application form on www.korean.net and print it out → Summit it to the diplomatic office)
② A letter of self-introduction (Choose either Korean or English) ※ Birthplace and the length of residence should be clearly stated.
③ A copy of a passport
④ Certificate of enrollment or university acceptance letter
⑤ Documents(copy) to prove to have special talents or to be a prize winner
⑥ A letter of reference(from principal or counselor)
※ All the documents for submission should be prepared on a word processor in either Korean or English, and the contact information such as an email address and the like should be correctly written. (Since most of the notices are informed through email, frequently used email address(like yahoo, gmail, etc.,) should be written.)
Be sure to enter an emergency contact number and a number in Korea

A. Selection procedures

◦ Notification of selectees(April 29)
- Notifying the local diplomatic offices and applicants through email.

◦ People who are excellent in Korean proficiency (Only those who submit a certificate)
◦ People who have a special talent in a variety of fields, won a prize and serviced the community many times
◦ People who were recommended by the principal

Note 2」This is subject to change depending on the status of application according to the continent or the country. If the number of applicants is less than that of students allocated in a certain area, those from other areas are reallocated.
