The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Minister Kang Jung-ai) announced that Yun Gil-byeong, a Major in the Republic of Korea Army (posthumously promoted from Captain), who fiercely defended his position until the last moment during the Battle of Hill 812 in Seohwa-myeon, Inje County, Gangwondo in June 1953, has been selected as the "Korean War Hero of May 2024".
