The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will host this year's Cultural Diversity Week from May 21-27 jointly with Arts Council Korea at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul and online.

The annual event commemorates World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development on May 21 as designated by the United Nations.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the week this year will feature programs including concerts, policy forums and online curated exhibitions under the theme "Hospitality: Flowers Bloom on Borders."

At the opening ceremony on May 21 at 5 p.m. held at the square's recreational venue Nori Madang, participants including immigrants and youth will officially declare the 10th anniversary of Cultural Diversity Week.

Earlier at 2 p.m., the square's Yukjo Madang will host opening festivities featuring the cultures of featured countries through games, costumes, tea ceremonies, traditional instruments and crafts. A screening of "Riceboy Sleeps," a film on the lives of Korean immigrants in Canada, is also scheduled.

Other events include a policy debate at Seoul National University and one with youth at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, plus an online curated exhibition of 88 works including books, movies and music dealing with cultural diversity.

The opening ceremony is free for the public, with advance reservations available online through https://booking.naver.com/booking/5/bizes/896606/items/5863229?preview=0. For more information, visit the event's official website (www.diversityweek.kr) or follow its official Facebook (facebook.com/korea.diversity) and Instagram (@korea_diversity) accounts.
