A two-week event promoting exchange of traditional culture with Japan to mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral relations has been launched in Tokyo.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that in collaboration with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF) and the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Japanese capital, it is hosting "A Touch of Tradition, Today's Encounter" at the KCC from March 18 to April 2.
The event features programs like exhibitions, activities and seminars focusing on the traditional paper, food, clothing and games of both countries.
The opening ceremony on March 19 will have a solo gayageum (12-stringed zither) performance of "Sonamu" (Pine Tree) written by Japanese composer Minoru Miki, traditional Korean court dance chunaengmu and a Hanbok fashion show. Traditional refreshments from the two nations will also be served.
On the same day, a Korean bistro in Tokyo's Ginza district will host "a Hansik (traditional food) concept restaurant." A collaboration between a Korean food master and a Japanese chef will present a course meal reinterpreting traditional dishes of both countries with a modern twist, highlighting the value of the culinary cultures of the two sides and promoting mutual understanding and friendly relations.
More information on the event is available on the official websites of the KCDF (www.kcdf.or.kr) and the KCC in Tokyo (www.koreanculture.jp).
