The seagull mascot Boogi has made an appearance on the Seine River in Paris to promote Busan's bid to host the 2030 World Expo.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Nov. 29 said it "conducted various promotional activities to introduce Busan's bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Paris, where the 171st general assembly of the BIE (Bureau of International Expositions) was held."

Over the event's period from Nov. 28-29, the cruise ship 2030 Expo Busan Space carried the 8 m-tall Boogi on the deck next to Jena Bridge (Pont d'Iena) on the river. With its name short for Busan galmaegi (seagull), the character is used to promote Busan Metropolitan City.

The vessel was decorated with eco-friendly themes to match the pro-environment theme of the 2030 Busan World Expo. The promotional zone on the first floor was made from eco-friendly materials and featured information on the bid. The second floor had an environment-themed exhibition and a cafe jointly run with Paris Dabang, a popular Korean culture-themed cafe in Paris, and the outdoor terrace featured a photo zone for snapping shots with the large Boogi doll.

In collaboration with Hyundai Motor, six eco-friendly cars inscribed with phrases promoting Busan's bid ran across Paris. As part of a mobile promotion, 10 bicycles each with a 2.5 m-tall Boogi doll on the back seat traveled to every corner in Paris.

Promotional images appeared at a combined 23 spots inside Palais des Congres, the venue of the BIE general assembly, and 211 outdoor billboards within 3 km of Paris and on mobile platforms. A media tour on the vessel promoted Busan's bid to invited French media personnel.

The ministry said, "As competition for the hosting bid is in full swing and with this general assembly as an opportunity, we will faithfully work with private support committees and a special National Assembly committee for the bid, with the Bid Committee for World Expo 2030 Busan under the Office of the Prime Minister at the center, to respond to the BIE's main activities until the host city is named."

"We will do our best to conduct activities to promote the bid to the BIE's 170 member countries and hold other promotions."
