Moon jars, or white jars resembling a full moon, are on display at the Denver Art Museum in Denver.

The National Museum of Korea (NMK) on March 5 said the exhibition "Lunar Phases: Korean Moon Jars" opened on March 2 at the museum's Gallagher Family Gallery.

On display are 12 moon jars: three from the NMK, six believed to have been made during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) and six created by modern artists. Nine contemporary works ranging from paintings and photographs to video and installation art inspired by the moon jar are also part of the exhibition.

Made in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, the white porcelain jars are white with a round shape like a full moon but with a slightly jagged form.

As part of the NMK's drive to support Korean art sections at museums abroad, the exhibition is the second on Korean art at the Denver Museum following "Perfectly Imperfect: Korean Buncheong Ceramics" in December 2023.

The latest event ends on June 8.
